There may be no ocean in sight, but believe it or not, Berlin is a fantastic swimming and sunbathing location, from forest-lakes to cool floating swimming pools, there is a place to swim and relax for everyone in this uber green city.
Here are just a few of our favourite Berlin lakes as well as a couple in the surrounding state of Brandenburg.
Dämeritzsee: around 103 hectares, partly bordering Treptow-Köpenick
Flughafensee: Located just north Tegel Airport in Reinickendorf, created artificially, at 34 metres this is the deepest lake in Berlin
Groß Glienicker See: Located in the southwest of the city and forms part of the border between Berlin and Brandenburg
Halensee: Located in Charlottenburg, this is one of Berin's smaller natural lakes from the Grunewald chain of lakes.
Heiligensee: lies in Reinickendorf on the extreme northeastern outskirts
Krumme Lanke
Located in Zehlendorf and in the middle of the Grunewald
Müggelsee: With an area of 7.4 square kilometers, this is Berlin' biggest lake, located in Treptow-Köpenick
Nieder Neuendorfer See: Located in Reinickendorf and is part of the chain of lakes in the middle Havel
Plötzensee: Located in Wedding near the Volkspark Rehberge
Schlachtensee: Very popular Zehlendorf bathing institution
Wannsee: The largest of the Havel lakes and the most important lake in the region. In 1930 the largest inland lake resort in Europe was built on its sandy beach
